In the realm of linear broadcast television and radio advertising, your media planning and media buying operates not by our usual (Gregorian) calendar. Instead, it operates on a specialized calendar created by advertising industry called the “Broadcast Calendar.”
Our standard calendar is messy because each month can start on a different day of the week. With TV and radio programming scheduled on a weekly basis, this creates a disconnect between ad delivery and monthly billing. Aligning scheduling and billing is the motivation for the broadcast calendar.
In the broadcast calendar, every week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday. Each month also kicks off on a Monday, concluding on a Sunday, fitting neatly into either four-week or five-week blocks.
